Skeleton Keys

"There are many holidays celebrated in the great capital city of Cape Cordial, but none are feared like the Great Thief Race. Held every year by the Obsidian League thieves guild, this secret holiday puts every guard in the city on edge. The three leaders, called Skeleton Keys for the magical keys they wield, race to loot the most places in the city before sunrise. The thief with the most expensive loot pool in the morning wins bragging rights for a whole year."

Skeleton Keys is a quick and chaotic card game for up to 4 players where players race against one another to collect the most loot before the end of the game. Play case cards to scout ahead, protect yourself or screw over your friend in an effort to avoid getting caught and losing everything you have.

This game was an absolute blast to work on. I spent most of the design process figuring out how to convey the mood and energy of the overall game. Things needed to feel light-hearted and fantastical all at the same time. It was important to me that players felt like they were the thieves, feeling high and mighty above the guards. I used bright colors, a city map, and goofy iconography in order to pull that feeling through.

The skull character from the logo design worked perfectly to convey the mood of any given card. Whether that mood was charming, defeated or excited you can trust that skull shares your emotions.
